Using my hand as a template i created a model from resonable thickness wire that kept its shape well. I firstly created the fingers sepately and then made the main frame and soldered it all together.
Human subtlety will never devise an invention more beautiful, more simple or more direct than does nature because in her inventions nothing is lacking, and nothing is superfluous. -Leonardo da Vinci

Techniques and processes- Glass Etching
This technique basically involved me having a sheet or pane of glass and using a rotary tool with different attachment to draw and etch into the glass. There is quite a lot of variables within this technique, the main ones being speed of the tool, size and type of the tool, pressure applied and the angle being used.
It requires you to hold almost like a large pen and quite firmly as it feels like it could slip and run away. This technique would be quite good in a light application and possibly detailed designs.

Testing the technique with rotary tool

Techniques and processes- Alginate and Plaster
Following on from my sketches of hands and objects they can hold i started to experiment with 3d modeling and casting.
I mixed up a large pot of alginate and placed my hand into it and waited about 4 minutes for it to set.
When it was set i then carefully wiggled my hand free trying not to damage the mould too much in the process but it is quite flexible so it made the process a little easier.
From that point i mixed up a tub of plaster and poured it into the negative to create a positive.
The process is a one off only as you have to break the mould to get the plaster out. As you can see from the images below it worked very well and the alginate picked up little detail like the folds by the knuckles and even some skin pores and texture.

i painted the second cast using oil paints to create a realistic hand
